In a promo for Koffee With Karan Season 9, Vijay joked that Rashmika had asked him to marry her around 100 times. Rashmika confirmed that she had brought up marriage for a year.

While the couple shared the exchange with laughter, some social media users were uncomfortable with Vijay's remarks. They felt he was making Rashmika look desperate by revealing how often she had asked him to marry her.

But there is more to their proposal story.

Vijay Had a Proposal Plan of His Own

According to reports, Vijay had planned to propose to Rashmika during their trip to Italy in December 2025. However, he couldn't find the right ring, and the plan didn't work out. He eventually got down on one knee during their wedding celebrations in Udaipur in February 2026. The proposal happened after their sangeet ceremony, with close friends gathered around them.

Explaining his decision, Vijay said he wanted Rashmika to experience that special moment, even though planning a romantic proposal wasn't naturally his style. "I didn't want to take that moment away from her," he explained. The couple married on February 26, 2026.

Was Rashmika Asking for Marriage Really Embarrassing?

This is where the conversation becomes interesting.

Some viewers felt Vijay shouldn't have publicly joked about how often Rashmika asked him to marry her. Their discomfort is understandable. A joke between two people can sound very different when shared with millions of viewers.

But Rashmika openly wanting to marry someone isn't something that should automatically be seen as embarrassing.

She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to say it. That doesn't make her desperate, just as Vijay taking longer to agree doesn't tell us everything about his feelings.
