***45 MINUTES OF CPR! ***Yet doctors could not save Nana Patekar! The legendary actor passed at 75 after reportedly suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. According to hospital officials, Nana was found unconscious and rushed for emergency medical care. Doctors fought to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but he was declared dead at 5:20 am.But his sudden death raises a frightening question. Can your heart give you warning signs before it stops?
Nana Patekar's death due to a severe cardiac arrest highlights the fact that cardiac arrests and heart attacks can show up suddenly. But does the body sometimes give warning signs before the heart suddenly stops pumping effectively? And can recognising those symptoms prevent a fatal event? Cardiologists say cardiac arrest can strike without warning. Sometimes, however, underlying heart problems may produce symptoms that people casually dismiss.
But doctors warn that chest discomfort, breathlessness, irregular heartbeats, fainting and unexplained fatigue can sometimes indicate serious heart problems. "The fact that veteran actor Nana Patekar has died as a result of a cardiac arrest serves to underline how important it is to be aware of sudden cardiac emergencies, especially among older people," he said.
Unusual fatigue? We blame our busy lifestyle. But doctors warn that chest discomfort, breathlessness, irregular heartbeats, fainting and unexplained fatigue can sometimes indicate serious heart problems. And here is something everyone should understand. A heart attack and cardiac arrest are NOT the same thing! A heart attack usually happens when blood flow to part of the heart is blocked. Cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood effectively. During cardiac arrest, a person may collapse, become unresponsive and stop breathing normally. Even abnormal gasping can be a danger sign.
What should you do? Don't waste precious minutes! Call emergency services immediately. If the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, start chest compressions at 100–120 per minute, following dispatcher instructions. Use an AED if available. And remember, sudden cardiac arrest doesn't always give a warning. Nana Patekar's passing is a heartbreaking loss for Indian cinema. But this tragedy is also a reminder of how important it is to recognise a medical emergency and act quickly.
